Facebook may soon start hiding Like in news posts. The company already tested a similar move on Instagram in August as a way to help break user fixation by getting likes on their images.
Application researcher Jane Manchun Wong (@wongmjane on Twitter), who is constantly researching the application’s code to discover unannounced features that are being tested, has revealed that Facebook is considering an Instagram-like test that would hide the counts of a publication of the user’s followers.
Instagram is already testing this in seven countries, including Canada and Brazil, showing the audience of a post only a few names of mutual friends who liked it instead of the total number. The goal is for users to feel less judged and see if the change can help people focus less on tastes and more on telling their story.
Facebook confirmed to TechCrunch that it is considering a test that would hide the counts, but that the test has not yet begun to run.
